Strategic Planning

The Future...
IT Director Tameka Allen has returned full-time to Information Technology after a lengthy and productive interim tenure in the Augusta Administrator's Office.  Ms. Allen is returning to her first love - technology - and is looking forward to the task of forming a new strategy to prepare Augusta for the challenges of tomorrow.

The groundwork for the new strategic plan is already being formed, and some of the major items that will be addressed are as follows:

  • Mobility
  • Application Deployment:  Vendor-Hosted vs. On-site
  • Customer Involvement
  • Security, Security, Security
  • Flexible and Agile Server and Storage Deployment
  • Cloud Storage
  • The Internet of Everything / Internet of Things
  • Social Media
  • Public Outreach Activities
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Many of these subject areas are addressed in our previous Strategic Initiatives and Tactical Direction Plan, but new and maturing technologies have shifted the playing field beneath government IT organizations, so a new approach is called for.

The new strategic plan is to be deployed in 2016.

The Past...
Augusta IT believes in the importance of planning for the future, and to assist in this effort the department maintains a strategic plan.  The IT Department refers to this document as the “Strategic Initiatives and Tactical Direction Plan” to accurately depict IT’s approach to strategic planning.  IT has identified several initiatives that form the core of our strategy (the “Strategic Initiatives”) and we plan our yearly projects and formulate budget in order to work toward those initiatives on an ongoing basis.  Thus, the “Tactical Direction” applies to smaller initiatives and projects that we are working on that are intended to fold into the larger initiatives of the overall strategy.  The strategic plan is reviewed on an ongoing basis and is intended to be the “one stop shop” for IT standards, plans, and major services for any given year.  Since IT must remain flexible in an environment where change is constant and customer needs often shift without warning,  the Strategic Initiatives and Tactical Direction Plan of the IT Department is expected to be modified as needed to remain current and relevant.
