Employee of the Year
Employee of the Year Nomination Form
Crystal Nason, after only 14 months as the “Mobile home Appraiser,” has served exceptionally well in carrying out new procedures to correct a costly county operation dysfunction. Her field reviews and ownership contacts are a major component of the “Mobile Home Project” of the Tax Assessor’s Office.
Ms. Nason’s positive attitude with property owners, fellow employees, personnel of the Tax Commissioner’s office, the Marshall’s office, and the courts, as well as her level of understanding and execution of supervisory directives defined the project successful. Professional training in a DOR recent course - Manufacturing Housing”- she scored a 96 and the instructor contacted our office to give high praises of her interaction in the class. Ms. Nason’s file management, coordination of records, collaboration with others, weekly reports, and follow-up with upper management surpassed our expectations.
This project was estimated to take over 2 years. However, it was completed in half the time and with superior quality due to Ms. Nason’s efforts. As a result of Ms. Nason’s efforts delinquent tax mobile home accounts are down 54% from the prior year to date. Back taxes collected to date are over $256,500. This project’s success has eliminated the collection cost which would impact the Tax Assessors office, Marshall’s office, Magistrate Court, and the Tax Commissioner at an estimated $500,000 annually.
The Employee Recognition Committee felt that based on this nomination and Crystal’s outstanding service, we would appreciate you joining us in recognizing her as the 2014 Employee of the Year.
Shawn Edwards was hired in 2009 to manage the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) via the HERA Act, but his contributions to the Housing & Community Development Department and the City of Augusta far exceed managing the NSP program. In addition to managing projects amounting to over $4 million dollars, Shawn generated two-and-a-half million dollars in sales for the Laney Walker/Bethlehem Revitalization Project where he leads in home ownership sales.
Preparing and completing the HUD-mandated Consolidated Plan (every 3-5 years), which identifies community needs, resources and priorities, and the annual HUD-mandated Annual Plan, which provides information on the intended use of HUD Program funds, are other tasks Mr. Edwards has taken on. His writing skills, accuracy and attention to detail keep the City in compliance.
Shawn’s dedication to consistently getting the goal accomplished - whether on the clock or off – is evident in his many after-hours activities. He attends several neighborhood association meetings to find out about future development plans, the needs of the various communities, and to let the associations know of the department’s availability to assist. He meets with citizens who have dreams and aspirations of opening a small business, constructing or developing on land owned, and/or to becoming homeowners. He unselfishly gives of his time and shares his knowledge with others.
Mr. Edwards’s other notable strengths are his loyalty to the department mission, his demonstrated commitment to the highest level of customer service, and his value as a team player. He exemplifies the qualities of the productive and responsible public servant he has proven himself to be.
The Employee Recognition Committee felt that based on this nomination and Shawn Edwards’s service above-and-beyond, we would appreciate you joining us in recognizing him as the 2013 Employee of the Year.
In Patricia’s previous selection, she distinguished herself with coordination of the completion of the transition from the Fuelman fuel provider to the Wright Express provider which required that she generate over 1350 individual Personal Identification numbers (PIN) and over 1400 vehicle cards through the Wright Express card system. This also involved the task of distributing the PIN’s and vehicle cards to the individual departments.
Pat’s direct and dedicated involvement resulted then and now in a successful transition in a minimum of time with outstanding results. Her work resulted in a first months cost curtailment/containment of over $35,000. (NOTE: The transition from Fuelman to Wright Express contained costs by the reduction of taxes paid through Fuelman but exempt through Wright Express. This allowed the money paid in taxes to be extracted from the bill instead of added to the fuel cost – “money not paid” as part of the fuel bill. In addition, Wright Express allowed for a volume discount which was not given by Fuelman”.) This curtailment is realized each month and adds up over the year.
Since Patricia’s election as the March 2012 employee of the month she’s made continued outstanding contributions. During the period May 8, 2012 through October 1, 2012, Patricia distinguished herself by carrying on the daily duties of Fleet Management while the Fleet Manager, Ron Crowden, was on extended medical leave. During this time she monitored, approved or disapproved over 4,169 work orders for vehicle and equipment maintenance. In addition she organized, inventoried, posted and collected the proceeds for and deposited the funds of over 118 lots sold on the GovDeals website. This was accomplished as well as performing her daily duties as the Fleet Management Coordinator. In addition to this, Patricia completed the requirements of a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Concentration Management, from Colorado Technical University.
The Employee Recognition Committee felt that based on this nomination and Patricia L. Ystenes’ dedicated and loyal service to the City of Augusta we would appreciate you joining us in recognizing Patricia L. Ystenes as the 2012 Employee of the Year.
