The Accountability Court of Richmond County is a "Problem Solving Court" for multiple alcohol and drug offenders under the jurisdiction of the Richmond County State Court. The Honorable David D. Watkins and the Honorable Patricia W. Booker preside over the Court. The Accountability Court's goal is to confront the substance abuse issue underlying the repetitive pattern of offenders.
The Richmond County State Court Accountability Court Program announces it was awarded a $25,000 grant from Governor Nathan Deal’s Office of Highway Safety for implementation of its Accountability Court Drug and DUI Programs.
Accountability Courts Programs
Alcohol & Drug Court Program
The Alcohol & Drug Program is designed to treat persons with a drug or alcohol offense. The program is a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. Participants are required to attend counseling, submit to random drug screens, perform 24 hours of community service and attend a court session once a month. Upon successful completion of the program, the court will consider a reduction or dismissal of the offense.
The DUI Program is designed to treat persons with a second or subsequent DUI offense. The program is a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months. Participants are requierd to attend counseling, attend AA or other approved support groups, submit to random alcohol/drug screens, complete state required classes for license reinstatement and attend a court session twice a month. Upon successful completion of the program, the court will consider waiving confinement, community service, and fines. A limited driving permit may be granted in some circumstances pursuant to the new Georgia Law.
Mental Health Program
The Mental Health Program is designed to treat persons who have been charged with an offense who suffer from mental illness. The program is for 12 months. Participants are required to report to Serenity Behavioral Health for counseling and treatment as directed. There is no cost to participate in this program.
Participants are required to pay a monthly court fee of $125 which does not include the cost of treatment and drug screens. The Alcohol & Drug Program and DUI Court Program are post-plea, per-adjudication programs. Violent offenders are not allowed to participate in any Accountability Court Program and admission into the Program is solely within the discretion of the Judge.
