Persistent dry conditions have prompted the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) to recommend to Governor Deal that a Level 1 Drought be declared in 58 counties, including Richmond. Simultaneously, EPD recommended elevating 52 counties that had been at Drought Level 1 since September 9th to Drought Level 2. Drought Level 1 requires that water utilities inform the public of the drought conditions and encourage conservation measures. Under Drought Level 1, the current restrictions on outdoor irrigation between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. remain in effect, and no new restrictions are imposed. Additional restrictions and conservations measures would be required under a Drought Level 2 declaration.
