Public Input Sessions Planned for Augusta Downtown Improvement


Public input sessions planned for Augusta downtown improvement

Members of the Augusta, Ga. community are invited to attend the third round of public input sessions for the city’s downtown improvement projects. The city’s consulting team will host community input meetings on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017.

The consultants will present the preliminary conceptual plans for Greene Street, Telfair Street and 5th Street and will discuss important transportation issues including parking, bicycle and pedestrian safety, streetscapes and roadway lighting options for these three corridors. Each of these corridors has state Transportation Investment Act funding earmarked for the 2020-22 time frame.

The consultants will also be available at the Augusta Regional Collaboration offices at 600 Broad Street from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 25, for those citizens wanting to offer their input to the process during daytime hours.

Following this third and final round of public input sessions, the consultants will provide their preliminary report to the city’s Engineering Department for presentation to the full Augusta Commission during the month of March. After the commission’s review and approval, the plans will be finalized and delivered to the Georgia Department of Transportation, likely in April.
