Tax Commissioner’s Office is excited to announce that starting September 12, 2009 they will begin Saturday operations at our South Augusta Tag Office located at 2029 Lumpkin Rd. The available business hours are 8:30 am -12:30 pm.
Through this grant and local funding, we are currently able to offer free entry level Internet access for up to 2 continuous hours and high speed internet access at competitive rates. The City has deployed access points in a 4 square mile area and is currently expanding the network on Washington Road. The best method for connecting and subscribing is the “How to Sign Up” section of the GTS brochure.

CDBG-R Substantial Amendment The City of Augusta is eligible to receive $606,372 in Community Development Block Grant-Recovery (CDBG-R) funding from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA or “the Recovery Act”). This funding referred to as “CDBG-R,” is a separate appropriation which requires a substantial amendment to the City’s 2008 Annual Action Plan. Approved by the Augusta Commission on June 2, 2009. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA or “the Recovery Act”). Project STP-7001(9), is a proposal to improve Wrightsboro Road from the existing five lane section of Wrightsboro Road, approximately 2,400 feet east of the intersection with Jimmy Dyess Parkway, to the Interstate 520 southbound ramp in Augusta-Richmond County, a distance of approximately 2.4 miles. The modifications involve a change in funding years for resurfacing and maintenance projects in Richmond and Columbia Counties. The consultant firm Wilbur Smith Associates has been awarded the contract to assist the Augusta-Richmond County Planning Commission, the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS) area, update its existing 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan. The goal of the ARTS 2035 LRTP update is to ensure that current and future multimodal transportation community needs, and cost effective solutions, are identified. Potential solutions to community transportation needs must meet federal planning and air quality requirements, as well as be financially constrained. An initial kickoff meeting with local stakeholders was held on October 15, 2009 at the Julian Smith BBQ Pit. In addition to stakeholder meetings, public participation meetings will be held throughout the year. Special outreach will be undertaken to elicit comments from Environmental Justice communities, which includes minorities and persons in low income brackets. The modifications involve a change in the federal funding category for resurfacing and maintenance projects in Richmond County: Sand Bar Ferry Road (SR 28); part of Deans Bridge Road (SR4); SR 56 Spur from SR 56 to SR 10; SR 104 from SR 4 / US 25 BUS to NW of 15th Street; SR 104 from NW of 15th Street to SR 4/ US 25BUS; and CR 1509 / Keysville Road from SR 88 to Burke County Line. This $192 million road improvement project started in June 2007 and is expected to take approximately three years to complete. The project consists of 6.25 miles of widening for additional lanes along I-20, the addition of collector-distributor lanes along parts of I-520 (Bobby Jones Expressway) and I-20. The reconstruction of the I-20 / I-520 interchange includes the addition of two flyover ramps, and a grade-separated interchange at Scott Nixon Memorial Drive and I-520.
